The Genesis

Along with the rest of the human population, I have been finding lockdown 3.0 (in the UK at least) the most difficult of all the lockdowns.

Lockdown 1 was full of novel experiences such as trying to understand what the hell was currently going on in the world and spending every waking moment checking whether Argos have re-stocked the Nintendo Switch (worry not folks, I’ve got one now).

Lockdown 2 didn’t really count. The lack luster sequel we all forget actually happened.

Lockdown 3, all the rules and regulations of lockdown 1 but with none of the novelty, a lot less banana bread and darker, and colder days and nights.

Long story short. Life can be miserable, but I have made my kitchen into a sanctuary where I’m inviting you to join me for breakfast/lunch/dinner. I

I’ve started this blog quite a while after my foodie adventures truly began, so my Sous chef (Chef D’oeuf) and I have already made a number of delicious delicacies. I am too lazy to go through all of these in much detail so here’s our highlights in no particular order.

Foodie highlights to date

  • Mushroom stroganoff is our tried and tested favourite Tuesday night dinner.
  • Times we’ve made pasta from scratch: 2
  • Lots of Indian recipes perfected including oven-baked onion bhajis, Chef D’oeuf’s paneer masala and homemade parathas.
  • We did try a different paneer butter masala recipe once but I mistakenly left Chef D’oeuf in charge of adding the spices (he was very heavy handed on the cloves and my paneer tasted more like mulled wine rather than a curry from your local Indian).
  • I have also been trying out some of my mum’s Indian recipes (she had enrolled me in a rigorous weekly cookery course before I left home which mainly involved me watching her cook potato curry every Sunday for 8 weeks before I moved out. Very good course. Left her a great tripadvisor review).
  • Sweet potato and caramelized laksa (I did a top-up shop to get the ingredients for this dish and a few other things. My shopping basket included 1 banana shallot, 1 pack of eggs and 1 pack of sanitary towels. I think the checkout lady really worried about what sort of evening I had planned…).
  • Caramelized onion and pak choi ramen with soft boiled eggs – looked like dishwater. Tasted better than dishwater.
Homemade Indian spread – paneer butter masala, baked onion bhajjis and buttery paratha
Oven roasted veggies with black bean rice and chimichurri avocado dip
Sweet potato and banana shallot laksa
Fresh pasta making! Was very awkward when the double 00 pasta flour turned up wearing the same jumper as me…
Caramelized onion and pak choi ramen. Spot the delicious orange and lime margarita in the background.
